Psalm 30:5 ‘Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.’
DAILY READING ; Mark 10:32-52; 2 Samuel 24; Hosea 4:1-11a
Starfish, or sea stars, are sea creatures which are known for their arms that create a shape like a star. Despite their misleading name, starfish are not actually fish, they belong to a group of species called invertebrates.
Starfish cannot swim, but they are very good at crawling.
Their limited movement makes them an easy prey for predators such as certain fish species, sharks etc. To help protect themselves, star fish have evolved several effective defense mechanisms. As well as their tough, prickly, armor-like skin, some have striking colours that camouflage them amongst plants and coral, or scare off potential attackers.
The most amazing thing about star fish is that it has the tendency to multiply itself when cut up. If under attack, some starfish will even shed an arm to escape the predator and then regrow the lost or damaged limbs! Any part of a starfish that is severed, a new one will grow in its place. Anytime a starfish is cut up, any piece that contains a part of the central disc will develop into a new starfish.
Starfish has the remarkable capacity to regenerate the whole body from one severed limb. So if one starfish is cut up into five parts, every part will regrow into a new fully developed star fish, so that in the place of one starfish you now have five starfishes.
Anyone who tries to destroy or cut up a starfish will find to their dismay, that rather than destroy the starfish, they actually help them to multiply.
This can be likened to what happens to children of God, when the enemy tries to cut them down.
Sometimes it can seem as if God’s people pass through all kinds of persecutions, troubles, trials and tribulations.
But no matter how hard, the enemy tries, instead of diminishing God’s people, the persecution only help Christians to thrive and grow stronger.
What sometimes looks like difficulties or hardships can actually become fertilizers that help us to multiply.
When Pharaoh tried to destroy the children of Israel through oppression, the more he persecuted them the more they multiplied until they filled the land.
In Acts chapter 8, when strong persecution came against the Church and they were scattered from Jerusalem, instead of weakening Christianity, the attack caused the disciples to spread to other cities, preaching and winning more souls as they want.
Indeed persecution can sometimes prove to be a necessary fodder for our growth. This is why the Bible tells us to count it all joy when we pass through fiery trials.
Apostle Paul endured a great deal of hardship and persecution for his faith, yet he had a positive outlook. He knew that despite the outward difficulties, God was using it all to increase him. In Romans 8:28, he said, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
It doesn’t matter how people, situations or circumstances may have tried to push you back, it will all end up propelling you forward to greater heights. The disappointments will turn around to become divine appointments and open up for you unexpected doors of
blessings.
Indeed though ‘Weeping may endure for a night, surely joy comes in the morning.’[Psalm 30:5].
Believe today, that no matter how deep or dark the night may have been, it is time for you to arise and shine for your light has come!
As the Church of Christ, surely, it is time for us to shout for joy because God who is faithful and never fails has given us the victory over those trying to cut us down. God has used the adversities for our advancement. He has turned our mourning into dancing, and our sorrow into joy.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for the grace to keep rising higher despite the people and things that attempt to bring me down. By Your Grace I shall always be the head and never the tail in Jesus Name..
