Psalms 66:3 “Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.”
DAILY READING; Mark 9:2-50; 2 Samuel 22; Hosea 2:2-23
In 1919, world leaders met in Paris for a Peace Conference to end World War I. American President Woodrow Wilson attended this conference armed with his visionary “14 Points” strategy for achieving world peace.
But parts of Wilson’s points were adamantly opposed by some world leaders.
While Wilson was trying to make progress and push across his points, right in the middle of the most important negotiations of his life, was precisely when he fell ill.
On the night of April 3, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson began to suffer from a violent cough. His condition quickly worsened to the point that he was unable to move and confined to his bed for five days battling a 103-degree fever and racking coughs.
Medical examination soon revealed that he had contracted the deadly Spanish flu.
The Spanish flu was an influenza which was killing many people as it rampaged around the world at that time. It eventually killed at least twenty million people. As the president’s life hung in the balance and it appeared he may not survive, he placed his hope in God.
Woodrow Wilson was one of the most devout of America’s Presidents. His Christianity was marked by a constant and regular prayer life. He read his Bible consistently every day, meditated on what he read, and sought to put into action the teachings of the Scripture in his decisions as a president.
His deep faith in God helped him to overcome
the devastating attack of the Spanish flu and eventually rejoin the Paris negotiations.
Apart from such health challenges that he faced while in office, President Wilson also had to deal with great oppositions from diverse quarters. But through a foundation of faith in God he was able to stand strong.
President Wilson was quoted as saying : “If I were not a Christian I think I should go mad, but my faith in God holds me to the belief that He is in some way working out His own plans through human perversities and mistakes.”
No matter, how high a man rises, he can easily fall, if there is no spiritual strength undergirding him.
It is a risk to aspire to great heights of success, if our spiritual foundation is shallow.
This is because it takes inner spiritual strength to thrive in the face of oppositions and resist the attacks from the enemies of our progress.
To access greater open doors, we must be ready to battle the many adversaries that try to contest our new level.
We must therefore constantly ensure we are spiritually fortified through a strong connection to God.
We cannot be thinking of rising to great heights in life, without first laying a strong and deep spiritual foundation of faith. The depth of our foundation is what will determine the height we can attain.
The truth is that we live in a world where negative forces constantly try to resist our upward movement and progress.
Therefore we need power both to overcome these oppositions and to keep rising higher.
Without such spiritual fortification, one attack of misfortune or sickness, can wipe out everything a man had spent all his lifetime laboring to build.
Therefore for our lives to be truly unshakable, we must be spiritually built up through a lifestyle of diligent study of the Word, prayers and fellowship with the Spirit..
If we are not connecting with Heaven, it will be impossible for us to withstand in times of trials and tribulations.
But when our foundation is built upon the solid rock of Christ, though the storm, rain and winds may come, we will survive them all and still stand strong.
Our depth in God guarantees our rise to great heights in life. Through God’s great power the forces that try to pull us down shall be subdued. .
Psalm 66:3 says “Through the greatness of thy power shall thy enemy submit themselves unto thee.”
Indeed God has armed us for victory over our adversaries. Therefore never be intimidated by overwhelming situations. Always remember that the forces for you are greater than the forces against you.
Through the greater One that lives in you, surely, you will always be more than a conqueror in every situation.
PRAYER: Lord, Please grant me a renewed desire for Your Word, prayer and praise, so that I can always overcome every resistance and be empowered to soar to the great heights You have ordained for me in Jesus Name.
