Isaiah 1:19 ‘If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:’
DAILY READING; Acts 1; Deuteronomy 11-12; Job 9
Jacob Chamberlain is the author of the book, ‘In the Tiger Country and Other Stories of Missionary Work Among the Telugus of India.’
This book records a number of his adventures as he served for 37 years as a missionary to the Telugu people of India.
One day Jacob Chamberlain was to make a trip overland for several miles through heavy jungles. Before he left on the trip, he knelt down and prayed to God for protection beause the jungle road was dangerous. Many people had lost their lives from the wild animals that infested the region. The missionary was to take with him two cartloads of Bibles for distribution during the long journey of two and half months.
Standing upon God’s promises, Chamberlain started through the jungles with about three native assistants. After several days they came to a section of the jungle that was flooded everywhere. The river was thirty feet higher than usual and consequently overflowed its banks. There was literally no way to turn.
Jacob Chamberlain realized that only a miracle would save his life and the lives of his companions.
Already they could hear the fierce, hungry roar of the tigers in the rattan jungle at their right. As Jacob Chamberlain cried out to God to save them, he heard a distinct voice as though spoken in his ear by a human friend, say “Turn to the left to the Godavery River and you will find rescue.”
When he inquired about Godavery River and asked if there was a village on its banks, the guides told him there were no villages for many miles. When two more times he heard the divine instruction to turn left and go towards Godavery river, he told the guides ” show us the shortest way to the Godavery river and be quick about it.”
The guides protested strongly, feeling they would be worse off in that direction. Nevertheless when Chamberlain insisted, they obeyed. As they turned left and arrived at the river, there they found a large, boat fastened to the shore, with two men on it trying to keep it afloat in the rising and falling current.
On inquiry the men said that they were working under the British government. They said a rolling wave had come down the river and sent the boat into the current. They had fought all day to keep it from coming to the Godavery River, but it seemed as if a supernatural power was driving the boat on until it finally floated to the spot where they were, about an hour ago.
Immediately the missionary recognized that the boat had been miraculously sent to rescue them from the flooded region. That was why, three times God had said to him, “Turn to the left to the Godavery and you will find rescue.”
All he had to do was simply trust and obey and God took care of the rest. Jacob Chamberlain bowed his head in amazed reverence and thanked God for the special answer to their prayers.
If you come to a cross road on the journey of destiny, always know that the path of obedience to God is the safest path to follow. Indeed God’s instructions delivers from destructions.
When we venture out, based on what God has told us, though the risk may be high, the fact that we obeyed, commits God to our deliverance.
Every act of obedience is passing the test that results in our change of level.
Obedience is always the story behind the glory. All the giants of faith who succeeded in life, were ordinary men, made extraordinary by obedience to God. Some of the instructions God gave Abraham appeared too dangerous but he kept obeying God and it was counted as righteousness for him and he became a trans-generational celebrity. Indeed when we are willing and obedient, surely we shall eat the good of the land.
This month as we obey the divine mandate to praise and worship God, certainly, we shall see inexplicable signs and wonders.
As the year draws to an end it is a good time to look back and recount the faithfulness of God. Indeed God has been good. Never mind some of the negative things that may seem to have happened. The only reason why you survived the things that came against you this year was because God is on your side.
You know that sickness could have killed you, yet you survived. That financial situation could have driven you crazy, yet God made a way.
God is indeed good all the time. This is why in everything we keep praising Him and judging Him faithful.
And in this last month of December, no matter how contrary any situation, let us keep our focus on the greatness of the God we serve. He is the God of miracles to whom nothing is impossible. Even in these remaining few days of the year, God is able to compress time for you and do incredible miracles in your life that will truly cause men to marvel and wonder.
PRAYER: lord, I thank You for granting me the grace to always walk in Obedience to Your every instruction. As I praise You continuously in this season, I thank You for doing inexplicable signs and wonders in my life in Jesus Name.
