Psalms 105:13 – 15 ‘When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.’
DAILY READING • 1 Timothy 2; Isaiah 34-35; Psalm 119:65-96
Gertrude Morse is author of the book ‘The Dogs May Bark: But the Caravan Moves On’. In the book she tells a remarkable story of God’s angelic protection.
In 1921 Gertrude and her husband Russell Morse answered the call of God to become missionaries to Tibet and China. Along with their two young sons, they travelled for the first time into “the closed land” of Tibet to preach the Gospel. They moved in a caravan and had with them some Tibetans who served as their companions on the journey.
Their team was faced with the danger of attacks from bandits who usually terrorized the region. During their first night of the journey they had to quickly move away from the place where they had planned to sleep, when they noticed three very suspicious-looking men hovering around. They feared these men might be spies for a band of robbers, so they shifted their plans and rather stayed the night at a village headman’s house.
The next morning, before they continued their journey, Russell had to send out two men ahead to check their path because bandits were known to occupy the roads to ambush and rob people.
On the second night they camped near a town where Gertrude and Russell Morse, and their children slept very soundly in their tents, while one of their Tibetan companions kept watch for bandits throughout the night.
In the morning, when she woke up, Gertrude asked the man who had been on guard if he had seen any robbers. He replied that he had noticed the movement of robbers, but an excellent watchman had assisted him through the night and the robbers had been unable to attack. He said he did not know the man and by the morning he was gone.
Gertrude and Russell were to later learn that the ‘excellent watchman’ was possibly a part of a company of angels after some local residents approached their team to recount what happened during the night, They narrated how bandits had planned to attack and rob their team that night, but there had been on guard around their camp, very big and tall men who were all dressed in white. When the bandits saw these big men guarding the missionary team, they were frightened, and didn’t dare carry out their intended attack.
When Gertrude and Russell heard this remarkable account, it confirmed to them that God indeed had sent His angels to keep watch over them to protect them from harm as they carried out their missionary work in the foreign land.
Truly the angel of the Lord encamps round about them that fear Him and delivers them. [Psalm 34:7].
As we serve God’s purpose on earth, wherever we go, His Presence surrounds us and shields us from harm. Psalms 105: 15 says God reproves kings for our sakes; Saying, ‘Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.’
We are never alone in the journey of destiny.
God constantly gives us dominion over the forces of wickedness, through His divine Presence. Though the enemy and his agents may plan and plot evil attacks against the righteous, God makes adequate provisions for His people to be delivered and live in victory.
Divine protection is one of the great benefits of serving God. As we walk in obedience to God’s Word and are guided by the Holy Spirit, God gives His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways.
In Exodus 23:23 God says ‘For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites…and I will cut them off’
Daily, God goes before us to cut off the enemy’s attacks. As we sleep and wake up each day, God who never sleeps nor slumbers constantly watches over us. Because of His divine protection, we do not have to fret or worry about what may be happening in the world. Though the wicked may gather against us, for our sakes, God will cause them to fall.
Indeed God is committed to fighting for us and giving us the victory.
Isaiah 31: 4-5 says ‘….so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof. As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.’
It is certainly, God’s will to continually preserve and protect us. This month, as we give Him worthy praise, His Presence will always surround us to give us dominion over every enemy of our destiny. Everything that has been a hindrance to our progress and wellbeing, God is certainly giving us dominion over them in this season. Every attack against our health, finances, family etc will all be subdued and we will stand strong and victorious.
In this second half of the year, as we keep praising and thanking God for the great and mighty things He is set to do, certainly His divine Presence will make all the difference in our lives.
PRAYER: Lord, please enable me to praise and bless You at all times so that I can be constantly surrounded by Your Presence. Thank You Lord for indeed granting me dominion and victory over every challenge in Jesus Name
