Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”

DAILY READING; Acts 12; Joshua 15-17; Job 28

Today America is celebrated as the greatest nation on earth. However, its existence became possible because the founding fathers were willing to make a break with their past and have a new beginning and fresh start.
The pilgrims were among the earliest settlers in America. Originally they were a group of Christians from England, who wanted to live their lives strictly according to the Scriptures. They had made a covenant with God “to walk in all His ways ..’
Their pursuit of a holy life made them to disagree with the traditional practices and trappings of the Church of England. This resulted in severe persecution from the Church of England, that eventually forced the pilgrims to flee from England to seek for a new home.
They sailed across the ocean and after about 65 days, they disembarked in the land that would later become known as America.
However in this new land, the Pilgrims met very harsh conditions. The weather was cold, food supplies were low, and many became ill. By the spring of 1621, about half of the group had died.
However, God’s mercies did prevail and the Pilgrims miraculously met an Indian named Squanto who had lived in Europe and could speak good English. He was especially helpful in teaching them how to survive in the new land.
They also made friends with the local Indians. Few months later, their situations changed for good. They began to prosper as the land yielded bountiful harvests.
In November of that year, they invited their Indian neighbors to a three day feast to thank God. This would become known as the first thanksgiving celebration in America.
The pilgrim’s willingness to have a fresh start and new beginning eventually led to the establishment of the great Nation of America today.

Isaiah 43:18-19 says “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”
