2 Chronicles 20:22-23

‘When they began to sing and praise God, God set ambushments against their enemies and they were all smitten’

DAILY READING –  •         Romans 16; 2 Samuel 1; Psalm 72

You can praise your way out of any tough situation. Anytime it seems as if you are surrounded, and there is no way out, you can engage the power of praise to break you through.

In April  2014, in Atlanta, a 10-year-old  boy, Willie Myrick  came out to his front yard and saw money on the ground. Curios, he bent over to pick up the money, but he did not know it was a trap. Suddenly from nowhere, a man grabbed him, threw him into a car, locked the door and zoomed off.  It was then Willie realized that he had been kidnapped. As he meant to scream, the man told him not to make a single sound. Willie then resorted to praise. He began to sing the popular song by Hezekiah walker ‘Every praise.” As Willie sang, the kidnapper started cursing and yelling at him to shut up. But the little boy refused, he continued singing. Willie sang the song for about three hours, until the man got sick of hearing  the song. Finally he came down, flung open the door, threw Willie out of his car, and drove off.  The little boy then ran to a nearby home and asked for help. His family was located and he was able to go back home.

At his home church, he testified of how God delivered him. Somehow the News media got hold of the story and publicized it. Willie’s story traveled fast and soon caught the ear of Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Hezekiah Walker, who had written the song ‘every praise’. Upon hearing the story, Walker made the decision to fly from New York City to Atlanta to meet Willie. The singer came to Willie’s church in Atlanta, where he hugged Willie and performed the song live.

Willie’s story continues to inspire people, as a confirmation that indeed God is fearful in praises. Praise is a formidable tool in the working of miracles.

There are times like this little boy, we may find ourselves in situations where there seems to be no way out. We may be faced with battles greater than us. And because of the complex nature of the battle, we may not know what else to do.

This was what happened to the nation of Judah. When three greater enemy nations besieged them, they didn’t know what else to do.  In II Chronicles 20:12, King Jehoshaphat cried out “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee”.

In this situation, they had come to their wits end. In answer God instructed them to appoint singers to lead the way to the warfront. 2 Chronicles 20:22-23 says ‘When they began to sing and praise God, God set ambushments against their enemies and they were all smitten’

When you come to your wits end and you don’t know what else to do, then it is time to turn on your praise. Praise will always provoke God’s Presence. And when God arises all your enemies will be scattered. You don’t have to be stranded, you don’t have to be trapped. Engage in High praises, and all your enemies will be smitten. Praise is the medium through which we provoke divine help, to level barriers.

In Joshua 6:20 when the wall of Jericho stood as a barrier against the children of Israel, they engaged in high praises and the walls came tumbling down.

When Paul and Silas were bound in chains, they sang praises to God and the chains fell off and the foundations of the prison were shaken. God dwells in the praises of His people. When we praise Him , He arises and clears off every barrier on our path.

Do you feel trapped, or locked up? Does it seem as if you cannot see your way out of that situation? Then it’s time to  engage the weapon of Praise. You can praise your way out of any tight corner. You can weary the enemy with your continual declaration of God’s faithfulness. The truth is that the enemy cannot stand your praise. When he thinks he has you trapped, keep praising God, and sooner or later he is going to have to let go. No matter what confronts you praise is the way out of it. Praise will always guarantee God’s Presence and God’s Presence will always establish your victory.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to continually Praise You in every situation. Let Your Presence be my continual habitation, because when I am surrounded by Your Presence my victory is guaranteed in every battle. Thank You Lord for Your Presence that always makes the difference for me.
