Galatians 5:1 ‘Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.’
DAILY READING; • John 7:1-24; 1 Chronicles 27-28; Zechariah12
Black people in America, for many years lived under racial laws of segregation. These laws forbade black people from living in white neighborhoods, going to white schools, hospitals or even intermarrying. While black people did nothing about the segregation, it lingered. However, eventually, God used an ordinary black woman to change all of that.
December 1, 1955, was just like any other day when Rosa Parks, got on the bus. Along the way, a white man boarded the bus and found there were no more seats in the white section. The Bus driver then looked back at Rosa Park and asked her to stand so that the white man could sit. The other three black people in her row got up, but Rosa refused to move. Rosa believed all people were equal in the eyes of God. In that moment she determined she was going to live like the free person God created her to be. The driver called the police and Rosa was arrested. She was later released from jail that evening and ordered to pay a $14 fine. Although the fine was small, she knew the time had come to take a stand.
At the Monday night prayer meeting at church, their 25-year-old minister, Martin Luther King Jr, rallied the congregation around the need for a change in the country. And so began a boycott of the public bus system, by the black people for 381 days. They often gathered at Church to pray and ask God for grace. Reverend King got lawyers who took their case to the U.S. Supreme Court. The American government eventually brought to an end the segregation of black people. However, the unfair laws were only changed, because black people stood up for their rights.
Galatians 5:1 says ‘Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.’
Spiritually, we sometimes suffer bondage and oppression because we refuse to stand up to enforce our covenant rights. The truth is that what you don’t want, you don’t watch. And what you don’t confront you cannot conquer.
A time comes when you need to rebel spiritually against the forces trying to oppress and you hold you down. A time comes when you put down your foot and declare ‘enough is enough’, I am better than this!’
In your finances, in your health, in your marriage, and family, there are things you have been tolerating for too long. And as long as you do nothing about them, that situation will keep lingering. However, in this season decide to dislodge them and gain your freedom through violence of faith.
It is the violent that takes it by force. Whatever has been trying to hold you in spiritual slavery, it is time to rebel against it. It is time to reject every negative situation trying to confine you and limit you. You are what God says you are, not what circumstance or situations dictate to you. You are the child of The King and not a slave, you are the head and not the tail, you are above only and never beneath!
However, knowledge of the truth is your ticket to freedom. When you know your covenant rights, no devil can enslave you or keep you in bondage.
This is why we need to constantly upgrade our mindset through God’s Word. When you know the truth you shall be set free. When you know your spiritual rights, you will confidently rebel against every oppression and claim what belongs to you by covenant.
Today being the last day of the month, it is a good place to declare an end to every form of bondage. Especially amidst the present global challenge, you need to declare your freedom from fear. You cannot be a slave to fear, because you are a child of God! Indeed you are the child of the king and therefore your case is different. You are too defended to be a victim.
And as the month ends today, let us also deliberately take time to thank God for His abundant grace and many mercies. Indeed God has been good to us and for this, we bless His Holy Name for ever.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to break free from every form of bondage and oppression through the understanding of my covenant rights. I especially thank You Lord for successfully bringing me to the end of this month in Jesus Name.
